Questions About The Strong Interest Inventory

If you are trying to choose a career, you may not know where to start. After all, there are hundreds of careers for which you may be qualified. Yet, sheer qualifications are not enough to ensure that you will be satisfied with a particular occupation. The Strong Interest Inventory can help. Here are a few questions about the assessment to help you better understand it:

What is the Strong Interest Inventory?

The Strong Interest Inventory is a special assessment tool that helps people identify their interests. By discovering your areas of interest, you may be better able to make a good decision when it comes to your education and career choices.

How long does it take to complete the assessment?

The Strong Interest Inventory can usually be completed in about a half hour.

Is the Strong Interest Inventory a standalone tool?

The Strong Interest Inventory can be used in conjunction with other assessment tools that review other qualities, such as personality and skill sets. Together, the tools should offer a better understanding of what careers may be most compatible with your individual make up.

How are your results provided?

After taking the Strong Interest Inventory, your results may be offered as a report. The administrator of the assessment will likely review the report with you to ensure that you properly understand it. The report will include a group of careers that may be a good fit for you based on the preferences that you indicated.

What areas are listed on the report?

Several areas are assessed as you complete the Strong Interest Inventory. Your report will include several sections, such as the basic interest scales, personal style scales, occupational scales, general occupational themes, and a profile summary.

The basic interest scales identify your primary interests, using your preferred hobbies, work activities, and courses. The personal style scales section displays your preferences concerning your team members, work environment, methods of learning, and leadership style. In addition, the occupational scales portion of the report displays a list of careers worked by people who have interests that are similar to yours.

The general occupational themes section of the report lists six personality types that may categorize people according to their view points and interests. Your score in each of the six theme areas helps reveal your level of interest when compared to others of the same gender. The profile summary presents the summation of your results in a graph form.
